Spooky Baboon Is Here

Halloween has taken over Scary Baboon.

The Lab has been dragged back into spooky season, the monsters have dressed for the occasion, there’s candy everywhere and, as usual, at least one thing has been added specifically to make you stop trusting your friends.

Welcome to Spooky Baboon.

The Mimic Is Listening

There’s a new monster in The Lab.

At first, the Mimic looks like a normal baboon. Nothing suspicious here. Definitely another player. Probably your friend.

Then it gets close.

The Mimic listens to players and repeats things it has heard them say, using familiar voices to lure people towards it before attacking. Once it has made its move, whether it catches you or completely embarrasses itself, it runs away from nearby players.

So if you hear your friend calling you from around a corner, you have two options.

Go and investigate.

Or become considerably less trusting.

Trick or Treat

We’ve also hidden 50 pieces of candy around the map.

You have eight minutes to find all of them.

The whole lobby is working towards the same goal, so you’ll need to spread out, search quickly and venture into some of the darker parts of Scary Baboon to finish the hunt.

There are, naturally, monsters wandering around while you do this.

Find all 50 pieces before the timer runs out and everyone gets access to a Halloween Egg from the event terminal.

Simple.

Probably.

The Lab Gets Spooky Again

The Halloween Lab is back.

We’ve given the place a full seasonal makeover, including Halloween versions of BlackGooGoo and Meatman, a new Pumpkin Meatman look and a reskinned Meatman arena.

Baboo is also back in The Lab.

The shop has been given its own Halloween overhaul too, with new seasonal gold cosmetics and Halloween Eggs available during the event.

Our First Limited Tech Tree

For the first time, Scary Baboon has a limited Tech Tree.

That means these items are here for the Halloween update, then they’re gone.

And we may have got slightly carried away.

You can throw pumpkins at monsters. You can blow them up with pumpkin grenades. You can fire explosive pumpkins out of a Pumpkin Launcher.

There is a Pumpkin Sword.

Halloween technology has peaked.

You’ll also find the Slapping Bat, which is exactly what it sounds like, alongside Bat Wings, a Bat Flashlight, a Spider Slingshot that fires spiders, a Candy Corn Pistol and a Web Launcher that lets you grapple around the map or web up monsters.

Then things get stranger.

Ghost Soda turns you into a ghost, giving you floatier physics and making you invisible to monsters for a while.

Mimic Soda copies the cosmetics and name of the nearest player for one minute.

We foresee absolutely no problems arising from this.

The Ghost Dagger can temporarily hide you from monsters after landing a hit. The Spooky Boombox plays Scary Baboon's Halloween music. The Scary Sound Panel exists almost entirely so you can frighten other people.

And then there’s the Spooky Board.

Speak near it and the board will decide between yes and no.

Sometimes, it will do something else.

Good luck.

Spirit Surge

There’s a new Ultimate too.

Spirit Surge transforms your pet into a spectral rocket-gauntlet that lets you fly by pointing your arm and holding the trigger.

You’ll leave a ghostly trail behind you as you move, take on a spectral appearance and deal damage by punching enemies while flying.

The Mythic version comes with additional pink and white effects.

We strongly recommend flying directly at your problems.

More Halloween Stuff

The limited Tech Tree is only part of the update.

Spooky Baboon also brings around 15 new Tech Web items, roughly 12 new gold cosmetics and new pets with Ultimates.

There’s also a limited-time Death Costume Bundle for $29.99, containing a Scythe melee weapon and 1,000 Gold.

And keep an eye on the shop. You might notice some Scary Baboon stuff from the real world making its way into The Lab too.

A Slightly Different Kind of Update

Spooky Baboon is deliberately a little different behind the scenes.

Rather than packing the update with another huge set of new systems, we’ve kept the mechanical load lighter so the team can spend more time on the things that are less exciting to put in a trailer but make Scary Baboon better to play.

That means moderation improvements, quality-of-life work, performance improvements and fixes to parts of the game we’ve wanted to tackle for a while.

There’s still plenty of new stuff to play with.

We’ve just also been cleaning the Lab.

Sort of.

Spooky Baboon is live now.

Go find the candy.

Do not trust the baboon talking like your friend.
